Moonrise Mindset Art Print
"Moonrise Mindset"- an appreciation for unridden waves and all that nature has to offer.
Illustrated by Laihha Organna on the island of Maui.
"you’re walking down a jungle path with your surfboard under your arm, having one of those out of body experiences where you feel the earth under your feet but nothing actually feels real. You’ve just traveled 30+ hours across the world in planes, cars, and boats to get here. You’ve been planning this for months but now that you’re here, the long journey feels like it happened in the blink of an eye. all the waiting and anticipation built up to this moment and now you’re here. breathing in the humid tropical air, you’re hearing the sounds of birds and insects you’ve never heard before. your is heart is beating a bit faster than usual and your feel butterflies forming in your stomach. With each step, the sounds of the waves crashing get a little clearer. a little louder. the earth beneath your feet start to shift from dirt to sand and you look up and can finally see the ocean.
you drop your stuff, look out and see empty, perfect barreling left breaks onto the stand. You take a second to take it all in before rushing to get your leash on and run out into the water with your friends. You made it. you’re here. You might even be the first in your blood line to travel so far and submerge yourself into another sea. You’re excited, but apprehensive. You’ve never been in waves like this. so perfect, yet so powerful. you’re waiting, observing, taking it all in. The anticipation is building, when finally you’re in the right spot anf your friend calls you into a wave. Your heart drops a little as you look down the growing face of the wave but without even thinking- you’re on your feet gliding down the line. You black out a little, not even really thinking, just doing a dance with this perfect wave. Which is really just a ripple in time that you’ll never get back.
You kick out before the wave crashes down on the sand and paddle back out to a line up of friends ready to cheer your on. Suddenly, the nerves settle and you’re ready for more. You spend the next couple hours having the time of your life, watching the sun go down over the horizon. You’re exhausted, in a good way. You all paddle in having just had the best session of your life. You drag yourself up the beach and start packing up for the walk back. You take your time. everyone is reflecting on what just happened and enjoying eachothers company, recalling their best moments of the last few hours.
The sun has completely set now and the moon is starting to rise. You’re all packed up when you turn around to appreciate the view one last time. You notice the swell is rising and in the bright moonlight, you see the best set of the day roll in. No one out, just empty, beautiful waves, growing under the light of the moon and in that moment, you realize that nature is without flaws and existing perfectly on it’s own, even when no one is there to admire it."
